Laugh Out Loud

Elijah,

You are so much fun! I just can't get enough of you! You make me laugh with all your funny faces - the way you still furrow your brow and look so serious like you're contemplating life's deepest wonders. Or the way you get bug-eyed when you're excited, usually about meal time. You also have quite the temper - pitching a royal fit any time I try to change your diaper or your clothes. Once you realize you like clean pants better you settle down, but my oh my, you arch your back, stick your legs straight out and just scream.

Yesterday someone was holding you and you got fussy but as soon as I took you in my arms, you calmed. You stopped and stared at me and wouldn't move your eyes away from me. It made my heart melt! Oh my son, you know your mama!

You know your daddy too - and you know that when he's holding you, you like to be wide awake and ready to play. Of course you still love catching a nap on dad's chest.

Two nights ago you slept for 5 straight hours! I sat straight up in bed and thought something was wrong when you didn't wake me up. I ran to check on you but you were sleeping peacefully. I stayed half awake until I heard you cry - running to get you at the first peep. I was so proud of you for sleeping so long, but I also wanted to make sure you were okay.

That was also the night that you and I just played before bedtime. It was so much fun! I gave you kisses and you kept trying to kiss me back. You were wide-eyed, staring at me and playing with my face. You kept puckering up your lips like you wanted to kiss me back. Oh, sweet boy, it was the most precious time.

Today we went to the doctor and you weighed 6 lbs 12 oz! My you're a growing boy! He said you're doing great and you've finally made it on the chart! You're still only in the 5th percentile, but you'll catch up - especially if you keep gaining almost a pound a week!

Rest little man. We had a full day. I love you more than I can even express. Mommy
