Each day feels like a new discovery. Each time you sleep a little bit longer at night. Each time you discover something new. Each time we have another 'first'.
Daddy and I have discovered something new too. You officially have a double chin! Yes, chubby cheeks, you are plumping up and we couldn't be prouder!

The past four days have been so much fun as you have learned to fixate on objects. Ceiling fans, lights, fixtures on the walls, the lights and toys on your swing. You stare so intently and with such excited eyes. And then you start to kick your feet and flail your arms in the air. You are seeing things for the first time and it is such a reminder to me to live each day to the fullest. You find such joy in the little things. I pray I can remember to do the same.
We have also reached a break through - you no longer scream bloody murder when you're getting your diaper or clothes changed if we put you in front of the mirror. You just stare at your reflection or mine and you have so much fun trying to figure out the reflection you see. Of course this thrills me to know we've finally found a way to change you without you having an absolute meltdown!

You have also shown your strength this week by grabbing onto things like our shirts when we're holding you, or helping to hold your bottle. You are even trying so hard to stand, which isn't quite possible yet, but you stick your little legs straight out and refuse to let us sit you down. I'm sure this is a sign of your independence as well, but oh how it makes us laugh!
Of course your little temper continues to flare when you don't get your way. You actually took both fists and threw your pacifier out of your mouth when you got mad because the bottle wasn't coming fast enough! Oh, Elijah, you already have a mind of your own. And it is also a reminder of the sin nature that we are each born with, but praise God for His life-saving eternal gift! Oh how I pray you will come to understand this at an early age.
You graduated out of preemie clothes and diapers and are officially wearing newborn sizes. You're getting so big.
Daddy hung the letters and animals on the wall over your crib. You looked on with approval! Mommy is making an alphabet board for your room, too. (Pictures to come.)

Everyone asked why you weren't in church this morning, but daddy was so great to stay home with you. You slept on his chest the entire time. It is your most favorite spot to be. Last night I could not seem to calm you down, so daddy took over and you fell right to sleep. He spoils you rotten! Maybe next week you can make another appearance. Everyone just likes to touch and hold you and you're still so little. I'm sure I'm being a little overprotective, but the doctor did caution us since you were premature. We just want to be careful - and of course we want the best for our little man.
We love you dearly.
