"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Matthew 6:26
The day after the fire we were still reeling from what had happened - sorting through our belongings, trying to find items we could possibly salvage. Amidst the ash and debris, our hearts were broken. It was a beautiful sunny day, despite how dark and dirty our "world" seemed.
And there atop the scorched frame of the house a robin sat perched on the burned wood. It was hard to ignore her - she was singing and chirping, seemingly unaware of how her lovely melody wasn't at all reflective of my feelings.
I was aggravated at her presence. She wouldn't leave nor would she stop singing. She had no idea she was comfortable sitting on a piece of wood, now charred and black from fire, that once made the peak of my home. She had no regard for me. Or maybe she did.
As we went around and through the house, Ed found it. The bird's nest that was underneath the staircase of the back deck. It was only about 5 steps up so it seemed to be protected from the flames and debris. Inside were 4 blue eggs. The joke was surely that they must have been hardboiled.
But today, less than 3 weeks since the fire and this nest's discovery, the joke was disproven...the eggs were hatched! Four baby birds, whose home exists in the midst of the rubble and rubbish we once called home.
You'd better believe that mama was close by. No longer watching from the top of the charred frame, she and papa were taking turns tending to the baby birds, swooping in at any sign or thought of danger.
How exciting to see this new life, in the middle of the mold infested, burned down walls and frame that used to be home. It is such a reminder of His promises!
