Baby Autumn

March 23, 2011 is a day I'll not forget. We've been waiting the call, knowing the due date was the 24th, praying for God's perfect timing (but secretly hoping that was sooner rather than later).

We got the call that morning - Lindsay was in labor. She had already gone to the hospital at 1 a.m. and was sent home because she wasn't progressing. She headed back again at 9:30 a.m. We got to see her and she was already at 9 cm before getting an epidural. By 1 p.m. she was ready to push ... but not allowed to because she had a fever of 103. Antibiotics were ordered and the news that the baby would have to go to neonatal to also be treated in case of infection seemed almost devastating. But we knew God was in control of everything and this little life was held in His hands all the days of her life, before one of them came to be.

And then it was time. Time to push. It was somewhere between 3 and 3:30. And my brother-in-law and sister gave me the highest honor and blessing of being in the delivery room with her. I wanted to make sure they were sure. Joey counted. I coached. She pushed. And for an hour and a half, with contractions every 2.5 minutes, we stood by her side awaiting the arrival of Baby Autumn.

At 5:03 p.m. she entered the world, with dark hair and a healthy cry. She weighed in at 7lbs 8oz and 20" long and she couldn't be more perfect.

For 27 years I've been the big sister. She tagged along with me and my friends. I had to be the example as the older sister. We've been the complete opposites in personality and yet, somehow we've managed to be friends too. But I can honestly say that on Wednesday, March 23, my niece was born and it was a happy day, but my little sister became my hero. She gave me a gift that I can never repay her for. To experience the miracle of my niece's birth and to be able to be by her side to encourage and coach her in that process...all I can say is I'm humbled and blessed.

Welcome to the world, Autumn Nicole. You are loved, prayed for, and will certainly be a blessing to this family!
