Elijah,

You did NOT want to sleep last night and I did all I could to help calm you. I just didn't know what you needed and I was so frustrated at myself that I couldn't understand you. I would hold you, rock you, put you to sleep and then lay you down and you'd scream. Maybe you just decided being held close was the best way to sleep. I'm still trying so hard to learn your schedule, your wimpers and your needs.

We went on and on until the late hours of the night. You are strong-willed, son! You've come by it honest, from what your birthmother has said, and you're doubly-in for it with us as your parents!

When you get mad you arch your whole body. I can't believe how strong you are. You stick your legs straight out like sticks and you curl your toes under. It is the funniest thing!

Sometimes when I try to snuggle you and you would rather look around, you pick your head up and just stare around the room. You don't want to be close to my chest when there's so much going on around you that you just can't miss. Oh silly boy!

I look at you and wonder what you'll be when you grow up. What will you look like when you're older, what will your personality be, when will you know how much we love you - when will you know how much Jesus loves you?

I sang you to sleep last night. Nana, my mom, told me to sing Jesus Loves Me - it worked. He does, baby. He loves you so much. And so do I.

I am so thankful that you are wide awake this morning. You enjoyed your bath, had a good meal and now you're resting peacefully.

Aww Carrie you have to be the sweetest mom ever. This one brought tears to my eyes, especially when you sang to him : ) Maybe a blanket with your smell on it will help him sleep... just a thought
